Flowing Color Scheme for Main Living Area

Mary Writes: I'm looking for advice for painting my small kitchen/breakfast nook/back entry, living room, and dining room that is laid out in a U shape. The kitchen and back entry are at the top right, followed by the breakfast nook and living room. The dining room at the top left closes the U shape at the top left. My biggest concern is to get the color scheme to flow. There is a red and teal color scheme in the kitchen and back entry that I love but I’m not set on keeping it. The kitchen counter is a green marble Formica that I would also be willing to replace. The kitchen features black and stainless steel appliances and white cabinets.   The kitchen is a 139"L x 96"W galley styled kitchen with a 34"W x 71"H window at the top of the U shape. There is another 34"W x35"H window halfway down on the outside wall. The breakfast nook/outside entry way is 136"L x 96"W with a large 59"W x 71 1/4"H window at the end. The outside entry door is positioned where the kitchen dimensions stop and the breakfast nook starts. The living room dimensions are 146" W x 208" L and there are two 34"W x 43"H windows, one on each side, with a 71"W x 59 1/2"T fireplace/mantle on the end wall. The dining room is 124"Wx141 1/2" H with a window measuring 34"W x 71"H and front door measuring 36"W x 80"T on the end wall, all ceilings are 8 ft.  See Answer From Diane Henkler »

Neutral Territory

Gerri Writes: I have an open concept living room, dining room, and kitchen. My living room has navy blue furniture with silver and blue curtains. My kitchen cabinets are white, and I have stainless appliances. I’m not sure what I should do for paint. Suggestions?   Thank you!       See Answer From Kate Riley »

Colorful Open Concept Paint Choices

Karla Writes: Hi, I'm having the worst time trying to figure out what colors to paint the walls in my open floor plan. The kitchen, dining and living room are all practically in the same room. The kitchen, however, has a corner wall going all the way to the ceiling (between dining and living.) There is also a bar (facing the living room), which makes the kitchen kind of an alley kitchen "hate it!" but I need to work with it. A while back I decided to paint absolutely everything a very light grey "VERY LIGHT" and now I'm tired of the BLAH. I need color, LOTS of color. I have a lot of different blues and greens as far as furniture and decor, what do you think would be good colors for the walls? I would love incorporate a kind of orange and/or yellow, maybe even some pink. I'm not the best when it comes to matching colors. I attached a "floor plan" to give you an idea of what I'm working with, I need color but I want them to lighten the room since my house doesn't get much light as it is.     HELP!!!!!! A Two-Color Scheme to Complement a New Kitchen

Jeff Writes: We live in a split foyer home and have recently remodeled our kitchen; complete with a sage green color for the wall. We are now doing the living area and hallways that are adjacent to the kitchen and are stuck on what colors to use that would blend well with the kitchen color. We have dark hardwood floors with a big bay window, so lighting is pretty good. We would like to do a two color scheme with an entire wall or two dedicated to the second color. I've attached a kitchen pic so you can see the color we need to blend with. See Answer From Eduardo Rodriguez »
