Teen Bedroom Transformation

Lexi Writes:     Teen bedroom ideas? My sister and I share a room and we both have different tastes. She likes soft colors and I like more vibrant colors. We were thinking coral, soft yellow, or blue. I also like green. I want a color that stands out, but she doesnt want something that will jump out at her or give her a headache. We agreed that the room should have a spring theme. There's also lots of posters and pictures on the walls. We have a pink desk and chair. We were thinking about painting our white chest of drawers a color that would match the theme. Please answer if you can. Thanks! :) See Answer From Lindsay Ballard »

Color Flow

Cindy Writes: My living room is painted dark pine green on two walls.  The kitchen leads into the living room.  The kitchen is painted white and I want to do something different.  The ceiling will still be white, but what color would you suggest painting the walls and should it be all the walls or just a couple as an accent?  I'd like to do some kind of glass or metal tiles as a backsplash behind the stove so I guess everything will have to flow.  I was thinking about a medium to light yellow, peach or a medium tan.  Or do I need to stay with greens?  Any suggestions? Painting a Home to Sell

Lynn Writes: We have a "hill country" style home in Texas with all walnut stained trim, no white anywhere.  We are preparing to sell our home and were wondering what neutral color you would suggest.  Our home tends to be very dark inside with not a lot of natural light.  Wanting an all-around good color that would be appealing to buyers.  See Answer From Eduardo Rodriguez »

A Brighter White

Jo Writes: I am getting ready to update our basement which is one very large room.  The only obstacle I face is that everything is blue from the walls to the carpet.  The carpet is not an option of changing because it is in such good shape and would be too expensive to change out at this time.  It is a blue and white berber.  I am leaning toward the colors of Nautical Blue and Vanilla Shake for the walls and would like your opinion on my selections.  There are several large windows and a door so the room has a large amount of natural light.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Thank you. Brightening Up a Room

Luann Writes: What color should I paint my living room?  I have olive green furniture with burgundy curtains and dark hardwood floors.  Right now it is yellow and I'm sick of it.   It has a big bow window but we have a covered porch so the room is typically dark. See Answer From Michael Wurm Jr »

Many Shades of Gray

Suzanne Writes: I can't decide which shade of grey to paint our master bedroom and what shade to paint our bath.  The trim is white and the hardwood floors are a medium colored oak.  I want it to transition nicely into our bathroom which has a natural stone beige tile shower, light tan floor and granite countertop with browns and blacks of various shades.   The bedroom is roughly 250 sq ft with a large bay window so lots of natural light.  I tried Valspar Cathedral and did not like it. Any suggestions? See Answer From Stefanie Schiada »

Never Boring Beige

Sally Writes: I have an open concept living floor. My kitchen is Frosted Pine by Glidden with brown granite counter tops. I love the color in the kitchen but I have no idea what color to paint the rest of the room. What color goes well with Frosted Pine that isn't too boring or beige and isn't so dark? A Mature Makeover

Robbie Writes: I want to redo my daughters room now that she is a junior in college.  Give it a more mature feel to match her age.  It's a bright green room from ceiling to floor.  I was thinking of adding a white ceiling, but not sure what else to do? Stripes? Chevron? I don't want to change the entire room, but maybe add to what the base color is. It is a large room with dresser, nightstand, bed, desk, & plenty of space. I don't want to change the window treatment, which is a white background with black, green, browns in it.   Any suggestions would be appreciated! See Answer From Kate Riley »

How to Paint with an Open Floor Plan

Cynthia Writes: I have a small home with an open floor plan; everything is open from the kitchen to the dining room to the living room. The walls are in desperate need of paint. Most of my furniture is earth tones with a few black pieces (entertainment center, book case, cabinet). Is it best to select one neutral color with an open floor plan? I also want to paint my kitchen cupboards (and walls). Again, struggling with color choices since it will be seen from all other rooms in the house. My countertop is a yellow rich cream color and appliances to match. I would love some color (favor rich red or oranges), just not sure how to go about doing it. (I included a picture of my kitchen). Thank you! See Answer From Michael Wurm Jr »

Something Old is New Again

Kellie Writes: Hi! I'm fifteen and I'm moving into a new room and I get to pick the color. My mom doesn't want to pay for a new comforter and the color of it is bright turquoise and the flip side of it is brown. I'm so sick and tired of bright turquoise walls and sheets! What color can I paint my room that matches either turquoise or brown? All of my furniture is white. See Answer From Melissa Michaels »

Making a Basement Bigger

Matthew B. Writes: I am finishing my basement and have a room that's 10x22 with a closet.  The biggest problem is the ceiling is only 6'6" or so from the floor, making the ceiling seem low.  The lights are recessed in the ceiling, and there are 12 of them so it is bright with them all on.  I want to paint this room so the colors help the room seem taller.  I'm not sure what to do.  Should I paint the ceiling a different color form the walls such as white?  I'm afraid I'm not very good at these things.  Thanks for the advice! Matching Neutrals

Travis Writes: My wife and I recently bought new furniture. The couch and loveseat are a light gray color and the recliner is black. We are trying to find a good color to paint our living room that will match with our new furniture but want to make sure that its not a dark color. The color needs to be neutral because she wants to use accent pillows to change the color scheme if she wants. Also she mentioned something about painting one of the other walls as an accent wall a totally different color yet still a neutral color. What colors should we use? See Answer From Kate Riley »

Warming Up a Dark Room

Jewell Writes: I need your help! My family will be moving soon and I want to paint my new room a different color than the one I have now. We haven't selected a house, so I have no idea on the amount of light the room will receive or how big it will be. However, I want a light, airy look, with pops of color. The problem is, my bed is black cast iron, my desk and side table are glass-topped with black metal legs, and my desk chair is also black. Airy? Anything but! These items absolutely must stay in the room, though I can decorate with paintings/accessories any way I want. My sheets are baby blue, and I have an ancient quilt my great-grandmother sewed that is checkered pastel pink, green, white, and blue, but the quilt is very faded (not bright at all).  One more thing. My room is for relaxing, reading, and writing. It should be soothing but inspiring too. Thank you for helping in any way! See Answer From Erika Ward »

Going to Tahiti

Jess Writes: We are remodeling the master bath and I would like the overall feel to be Tahiti...tropics....We will have natural elements...shower with pebble floor, sea shells above the tub and a gray wood vanity.  The floor will be browns and we will have a bamboo room divide. My question is how many bright colors can I paint the walls and have it still flow together?  I would like to do a Caribbean Sea by the tub, and New Grass Green above the vanity, a sky blue for the ceiling, and pops of red or fuchsia (topical flower colors)?  What color could the other walls be to tie it all together?  Will there be too many colors?  Please help us relax in Tahiti when we enter the bathroom. Thank You See Answer From Eduardo Rodriguez »

Lightening and Brightening

Jessica Writes: Hi Team!   I will be moving in to a new apartment within a few months. It has a lot of architectural charm, but also has a lot of dark (reddish) wood trim to work around. I'm "over" the cream palette (been there done that!) so was considering a gray or something similar to keep the space from feeling too traditional and stuffy. My couch is an olive-y brown. Any ideas, please? I want to keep this space light and bright!  See Answer From Diane Henkler »
