How to Get Your Living Room Christmas Tree Ready

Paint Color Inspiration: Nova White, Universal Grey & Charcoal Coast

It’s that magical time of year when we pull out all of our holiday decorations for the Christmas tree. But before the Christmas tree goes up, it’s a great time of year to refresh the living room to be the perfect setting for your holiday gatherings. Don’t worry if that sounds like a daunting process right now, it doesn’t have to be! Today let’s look at five ways to freshen up your living room to be Christmas tree ready, just in time for celebrating with your family.

1. Paint the Walls

While painting might seem like a big project to start around the holidays, I find I’m extra motivated to fix up my house this time of year! I tend to do a lot of my house updates when this season rolls around. It’s extra incentive knowing that by setting aside a day of painting just one room before I decorate the tree, my fresh living room paint color will be the perfect backdrop for Christmas. There’s nothing quite as pretty in a house as freshly painted walls with twinkling lights everywhere—dingy or dirty paint just doesn’t offer the same ambience. If you can set aside a day to refresh your walls, you’ll be so glad you did!
2. Seasonal Switch

Before you pull out all those bins of decorations, you’ll want to make a little more room for the season to shine. Grab a box and walk around the living room gathering any extra decorative items you won’t be using for the holidays. If you have spring or summery throw pillows on your sofa, you can put those in a bag to bring out after the holidays. With fresh, clean surfaces and a more seasonally-neutral room, you can enjoy setting out your holiday decorations! Store your everyday decor with your Christmas bins so you’ll know where to find it when the holidays are over.

3. Warm Up the Room

Now that you have a pretty backdrop and clean surfaces, you’ll want to warm up the room so it’s the perfect setting for a Christmas tree. You can add a cozy winter throw blanket and a seasonal pillow to your sofa or chairs. Add a wreath to your door or wall, and some greenery and a few candles or twinkle lights around the room.

4. Prepare the Mood

Now that the room is looking good, it’s time to set the right mood. What are your favorite Christmas songs? Put together a playlist of your traditional and new favorites. Set up speakers in your living room so you can listen to the tunes during your holiday gatherings.
5. Decorate the Tree

Your room is picture pretty, the Christmas tunes are playing, now get your decorations out and string them on the tree! Make decorating the tree a memorable family event in your newly refreshed space!
