5 Tips for Decorating a Spring Mantel
Are you ready to decorate a spring mantel? While I don’t always use the traditional or expected holiday-themed décor, I do enjoy evolving my home through the seasons in creative ways. I love just having fun with décor by playing with color, nature, textures, and various decorative accessories I can find around my house. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or buy new things to be able to decorate for the seasons—it’s fun to shop around your own house to see what you can find! I will often reuse the same accessories season after season in new ways, as it is a budget-friendly and space-saving way to decorate a home.
Decorating a spring mantel helps make a home feel alive, fresh, and fun after a long dark winter. It is an instant mood booster! If you don’t have a mantel, a shelf or console table is the perfect place to evolve your home from winter to spring. While I like to decorate a spring mantel without fear of rules or mistakes (it is our own home, after all), it’s helpful to consider a few simple tricks.
1. Be Bold
Mantels tend to look their best with bolder statements. Instead of many tiny accessories lined up on the mantel, try grouping larger items for greater impact.
2. Add Contrast
Mix up your décor with contrast! Pair smooth with rough, round with square or rectangles, and shiny with matte to make your mantel more visually interesting.
3. Be Creative
Step outside of traditional mantel décor like candlesticks and family photos and try unexpected or unique accessories to represent what you love about the season.
4. Be Colorful
Spring is about nature coming back to life, so don’t be afraid to bring in pops of color to bring the same feeling to your home.
5. Try Layering
Think about how you could layer your accessories for greater impact. Stack books topped with accessories for height and layer objects front to back for more dimension.
Happy spring decorating!
