From the Runway to Your Home: 2016 Fall Colors

Yeep! It’s time again to bring our sweaters out of retirement and start cozying up our homes with pretty fall colors for the chilling months ahead. Fashion has always been a benchmark for trends to come, and for me, a wonderful muse for my work. So if you’re on the lookout for inspiration to decorate your home this autumn, the runway is a stylish place to start. Here are some trends from the catwalk that stood out this season.

Tan is a beautiful neutral that comes in a variety of shades, and this year it’s one of the hottest hues in fashion. Luckily, tan is a color that’s largely used for decorating thanks to its versatility. It can instantly warm up any space, which makes it ideal for fall decorating.

Some of my favorites tans in the Glidden palette include Soft Bronze Glow, Golden Rice and White Honey. Try all three for a tone-on-tone approach.

Gold Metallics

Metallics are often associated with colder months — and this year is no exception. This fall, gold metallics are in vogue and are already making a glittering splash in stores. I’ve always like using metallic accents in my decorating to introduce a bit of bling. For instance, this oversized gold vase (pictured below) looks stunning against the dark wall painted in Shaded Fern.

One word of advice: don’t overdo it with metallics. Use them sparingly as accents to add sparkle.

Grey and plaid are both big staples during the fall and winter. This year, a combination of both is a huge trend. Greys are soothing and comforting, and layering different patterns of plaid can add texture to your bedroom.

But you don’t have to limit yourself to one color trend per space. You can mix and match many fall colors. A grey-plaid area rug and a gold metallic side table look amazing in this tan room.

Fashion lets us express ourselves in the way we dress, so why not let your home do the same? Have fun dressing up your place.
