Revamp Your Living Room With a Wall Mural

Murals add impact to any wall

I’m always in search of fun and affordable ways to keep my living room looking stylish. Paint is a perfect resource for updating your space, but there’s a lot more you can do with it than just applying a fresh coat. You can completely change the look and feel of your living room by painting a stunning mural on a feature wall. It personalizes the space, creating a magnificent focal point and a to-die-for conversation piece. The thought of creating a mural might feel a little intimidating at first, but the process is not really that complicated. You can start small, and you can make it as easy or hard as your artistic side allows you to. What’s important is making it a fun project so you can fall in love with results at the end.

The first step to conceiving your mural is determining the mood you’d like to set in your space. The possibilities are endless: you can take inspiration from patterns already in your room, art books or even street art in your city.

Wall murals give a space a personalized touch

Depending on your artistic abilities you can go about it in two ways. One way is to sketch the desired image on a transparent paper that you can later project on the wall using an overhead projector. Once the outline of your design is projected on your living room wall, use a pencil to trace it on the wall. You can then paint the graphic according to your color choices. Based on your design and how intricate the motif is, make sure you have brushes of various widths to make painting a lot easier.

Your imagination is the limit when creating a wall mural

Now, if you’re feeling creative and would like to give freehand a try, you can start by drawing your design directly on the wall. However, it’s always a good idea to have your image sketched out on a piece of paper too so you can refer to it throughout the process. This is how this groovy mural was created. First, the wall was painted with a light grey base coat (Universal Grey) for the background. Then the outlines of the freeflowing lines were traced on the wall and later filled in with a darker tone like Charcoal Grey. The organic nature of this mural gave the living room the wow factor my client was aiming for. I chose a neutral palette and introduced different pops of color in the décor.

See, there’s more to paint than meets the eye. Let your imagination run wild and create something unique that instantly revamps your living room while letting the artist in you shine. Let the mural painting begin!
