Discovering Fresh Summer Color Palettes
by Kate Riley on June 5th, 2012
Summertime is that season when we welcome more vivid colors into our home. You’ll find that fresh, vibrant color palettes are everywhere in nature, in fashion, and in your travels—all you need to do is bring it home in an image and pull colors from that inspirational source, whatever it is! Here are just a few examples of summer palettes captured from behind my lens.
Shades of sand and sea are reminiscent of summer vacations spent on the coast. Pull these colors into your home in hues that include blues from the ocean and sky and neutrals from the sand to achieve the feeling of serenity that comes across when you’re looking at lapping waves.
Summer fashion is full of color so take your cues from merchandise you buy or spy in a window! Bright corals, pinks, yellows and aquas pair in a fun medley to import a summer vibe into your home or outdoor spaces.
Summer travels take us to places we’ve never been and you never know what new palette you’ll find around the bend. This exotic tiled staircase is the perfect combination of warm and cool tones.
Fabrics are always a no-fail resource for pulling together a palette for your home. I love the rich blues and greens in this summer tablecloth.
Summer annuals in a window box are nature’s way of teaching us that perfect color palettes are all around us, in full bloom!
Of course there’s no more classic color palette for summer than good ol’ American red, white, and blue. Find it in a waving flag on the Fourth of July or even in a simple treat topped with summer fruit.
Wherever you go and whatever you see, there’s a palette that awaits you. So bring your camera and start snapping away, you’ll be amazed at the color inspiration you can capture!
