Colors for a Home Office

If you’ve been following my blog for the past few months, you know that I’m in the process of creating a work space in my home. From choosing paint to finding furniture and accessories, it’s been a lot of fun. Today I thought I’d talk about deciding on colors for a home office.

There are myriad possibilities for colors, but I decided on a neutral backdrop with lots of colorful accents. I went this route because of the way I work. Being a full-time blogger, my house and office are filled with colorful props, projects, books, and accessories. And, since I’m always on the hunt for ideas and inspiration, these things are often changing.

Plus, because my job is on the creative side, having a neutral background is nice when the visual clutter of work takes over. For most of the walls in my office, I went with a very pale gray color. Something similar to Glidden paint’s Toasted White. Then, to add a small dose of color, I opted for a very light mint green accent wall. This color is similar to Glidden paint’s Almost Aqua. Then, for something a bit bolder, I added a pop of aqua around the fireplace in the lounge area of my office. Minty Green from Glidden paint would work perfectly to recreate this look.

Simple almost-sheer white curtains dress the windows while keeping the focus on the walls. With the furniture, I did a mix of modern glossy white and vintage pieces. A gray couch welcomes colorful pillows in the lounge area. My office space is still a work in progress, and I do plan to add some unique art to the walls. With a neutral background, the art will shine.

Since I love color, I used accessories to incorporate lots of bold and happy hues. Lime green, turquoise, navy blue, red, and gold metallic accents help to bring the space to life. Having these colors for a home office helps to inspire my creativity.

To make a home office that is conducive to your style, determine what colors make you the happiest and work from there. Remember, a joyful work space is a productive one.
