Modern Chic Bathroom Inspiration

Since I recently bought my first home, I keep thinking about how I’m going to update my bathrooms from modern bleak to modern chic. We have two bathrooms and they are both stuck in the 70′s (they’re modern in a bad way). One of them has that horrible brown speckled tile, and the other one is so tiny that when I open the door to step into the shower, the shower door hits the toilet. We plan on remodeling the bathrooms in the next few months—so I’m very busy collecting inspiration for how to update them to create that modern-chic vibe that is both clean and timeless. I love the modern Moroccan vibe in the above photo. The patterned tile works so well with the periwinkle walls. (For a similar feel, try Glidden paint’s Lavender Cloud.)
Another look I’m crazy about is analogous colors in the bathroom. Generally speaking, bathrooms are smaller rooms—so they can handle a color punch. I love the way this bathroom balances several blue hues and pairs that gorgeous mosaic tile with a similar paint color on the wall (for a similar look try Sailing Sea Blue in a high-gloss finish). And don’t get me started on that waterfall shower!
And how about this look, pretty gorgeous huh? My home is Spanish style—with lots of archways—so a bathtub tucked beneath an arch would fit perfectly. Also, all of that built-in storage is very dreamy, isn’t it? The mix of materials here: tile, white wood and marble creates a very chic and timeless look. The more modern elements, like the squared-off stainless faucet hardware and the open floating shelves make the space feel contemporary. While I love bold colors, I can get behind a bathroom that is as bright and airy as this one. For a similar look, try using multiple shades of white in a single room. For example, pair a warmer white like White on White with a cooler white like Nova White to create depth and still maintain an overall clean and modern-chic feeling.
Another look I love? Pairing a bright white foundation with a bold accent color, like this tangerine dream! This look is so clean and modern, but also totally kid-friendly. You could achieve a similar look by finding vintage scores at thrift shops or flea markets—like mirrors, stools, trash cans or even light fixtures and painting them all one fun, bright accent color. For a similar burst of bright orange accent color, try Fresh Tangerines.
I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop once I pick out the palette for the modern-chic bathrooms in my own home!
